Circular Economy – Hot topics at the K Fair 2019

28. Okt 2019

From 16 to 23 October 2019, around 225,000 trade visitors from around 165 countries attended the international and world's leading trade fair for the plastics and rubber industry. The TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP used this year's K trade fair in Düsseldorf (16 to 23 October) to present a range of new and proven materials in addition to almost 3,300 other international exhibitors.

TEREZ Compounds

TEREZ ECO – completed cycle at the highest level

TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP is present with a comprehensive portfolio in the field of technical regranulates. The TEREZ® ECO series offers material solutions based on post-industrial raw materials with permanently consistent qualities. Complex supplier controls, audits and production monitoring ensure consistent product quality with full REACH and RoHS conformity.

TEREZ RT – for highest dimensional stability

The product line TEREZ® RT shows a very low moisture uptake and therefore an excellent dimensional stability. Furthermore, there is an outstanding chemical resistance against e.g. oil, salts and water/glycol. The mechanical properties are regardless of the surrounding moisture conditions on a high level. The high glass transition temperature of over 120°C and the high crystallinity offer the best conditions for the use of this material in the highest demanding applications.

TEREZ XT – for best tribological results

The product line TEREZ® XT shows the highest crystallinity within the Polyamides. The result is not only an excellent creep modulus at high temperatures. In combination with PTFE it shows extraordinary abrasion resistance and a low coefficient of friction. Ambient temperatures of more than 100°C in combination with high loads and high sliding speeds can be handled safely. Chemically bonded PTFE assures even higher lifetime of gears and bushings, as well as a wider processing window.

Engineering Plastics

DSM – Metal replacement for electric vehicles

EMI shielding and thermal management are becoming increasingly important in automotive electronics. Critical electronics systems like ECUs and power management modules are typically housed in metallic enclosures. The metal housing provides environmental protection for the board, dissipates the heat of the processor and power electronics to prevent over- heating. Such metal housings however are pretty heavy in weight. At the same time, it effectively shields EMI caused by adjacent onboard electronic systems as well as from outside the car that may interfere with the sensitive integrated circuits (ICs) leading to severe electrical failures. DSM’s portfolio of conductive plastics enables the replacement of full metal enclosures with shielding efficiencies of around 50-70bB of plastic thickness. Replacing die-cast aluminum housings by engineering plastics that combine thermal conductivity with electro-magnet interference can lead to weight reductions of 50%.

TOYOLAC MABS for applications in the highly complex field of medical technology

TOYOLAC MABS is characterized by high chemical resistance, excellent transparency and good impact strength. The combination of these properties makes TOYOLAC a material that is used for demanding and design-oriented applications. As an example, the requirements for applications in the medical sector are especially demanding. Here TORAY offers solutions with TOYOLAC 950 ME1 and TOYOLAC 950 ME2.

Both types offer excellent processing, excellent chemical resistance, Bisphenol A freedom, biocompatibility as well as FDA "Drug Master file" registration.

DURACON POM with lowest emissions

The topic of formaldehyde emissions is becoming more and more in the focus of production safety. Whereas in the past emissions were only part of the requirements for vehicle interiors, today companies are also paying more attention to the health of their employees.

With the latest POM DURACON generation from Polyplastics Europe, TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP offers POM at the lowest formaldehyde emission level. As a result, the user benefit from the following advantages: less odor, less emission and less mould coating.

DURANEX PBT / DURAFIDE PPS – Plastics of tomorrow’s e-mobility

With the trend shift from combustion engines to electric vehicles, the proportion of electronics per vehicle is increasing significantly. Usually, the electronics work in the engine compartment under harsh conditions, such as increased temperatures and humidity or coolants.

Due to the increased temperature and cooling requirements, common materials such as polyamide 6, 66 and standard PBT are often no longer suitable for some applications.

Polyplastics' range of hydrolysis-resistant PBT and PPS with the advantages of high dimensional stability and excellent temperature resistance offers the best alternatives.

Thermoplastic Elastomers

ARNITEL TPE – Sustainability through lightness

The market for non-pneumatic or non-flat tyres that are not supported by air pressure requires a higher level of sustainability, durability, efficiency and cost reduction. Arnitel, a high performance thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), offers a unique combination of flexibility, high temperature resistance, strength and processing properties. Arnitel is increasingly being used as a lighter, smarter and more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional rubbers, reducing environmental impact and finally system costs.

CHEMITON SEBS – Sustainability through renewable raw materials

In the field of SEBS compounds, the TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP will present a new Chemiton series from the Italian manufacturer Franplast at the K fair, which is manufactured from renewable raw materials. This new Chemiton series rounds off the SEBS range in line with the increasing demands on materials and product safety. These materials are designed for the medical, toy and household markets. In addition, a new SEBS series will be presented, which eliminates the need for cost-intensive preparation for printing (pad printing and screen printing). However, a very good adhesion and print quality is given without print preparation on the SEBS.

POLYLAN TPU – Sustainability through recycling

In the field of thermoplastic polyurethanes, the TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP meets the great demand for material recycling of valuable raw materials and offers a wide range of tested and certified TPU materials. In the past, cost savings were the main reason for the use of regranulates, but today the focus is on sustainability and the number of customers using regranulates is increasing.

Due to a particularly gentle processing method, the physical values of the polylan regranulate from the TPU specialist PolyTherm do not differ significantly from those of prime material.

Shore hardness ranges from Shore A65 to Shore D65 for injection moulding applications and from Shore A70 to Shore A98 for extrusion applications.

Expanded distribution

New distribution partner SK CHEMICALS

Since a few weeks the TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP is the new distribution partner for SKYPEL, a polyester elastomer from SK Chemicals.

The TPC materials have comprehensive approvals (FDA, etc.) and are used particularly in medical applications as well as in the cosmetics and furniture industries. Of particular interest are new developments in the ShoreA area, which create completely new application possibilities. Polyester elastomers are suitable for injection moulding, extrusion and blow moulding.

New sales partnership with Kumho Petrochemical in Spain

The subsidiary TER HELL Plastics Spain SL. has recently become Kumho Petrochemical's exclusive sales partner for the automotive sector in the Iberian market. The cooperation covers the entire range of styrene copolymers (ABS chrome, ABS varnish, ASA and polycarbonate blends) and combines the synergies of high-quality products from Kumho Petrochemical with the excellent technical distribution network of TER HELL Plastics Spain, which already has a wide range of plastic polymer products in Spain.

Expansion of sales partnership with TOTAL

In April 2019, the sales partnership with TOTAL in the area of PE and PS qualities in France and Spain was expanded in addition to the existing PP portfolio. This regional expansion gives TER Plastics POLYMER GROUP an even stronger presence in Europe and underlines its claim as a leading pan-European distributor.
