PA6 and PA66 are used in a number of applications, from injection-moulded parts for the automotive or sports industries all the way to semi-finished products and corrugated pipes produced in an extrusion process. The portfolio of our partners DSM Engineering Plastics, Solvay Engineering Plastics und TEREZ PERFORMANCE POLYMERS includes specially-modified characteristics such as being hydrolysis-modified, flame-retardant, with improved flowability, impact-modified, with high rigidity and stability, and also tribologically-modified.
PA6 - Miniature Circuit Breakers
As they move away from halogenated thermoplastic and thermoset materials, producers of low voltage switchgear (LVSG) are turning to more environmentally friendly solutions. Manufacturers of Miniature Circuit Breakers enclosures are now using halogen-free flame retardant Polyamide 6 (PA6).

Solvay enhances
Technyl Red
The downsizing of vehicle motors leads to increasingly high operating temperatures and continuous stress on motor components. There is a need for new material solutions which withstand these conditions without affecting cost efficiency and performance criteria such as workability and surface quality.
Solvay is not shying away from thisM challenge and recently introduced Technyl® REDx, an “intelligent macromolecule” which produces its own reinforcement whilst maintaining the basic polymer structure. The technology remains inactive during injection moulding and only responds to the increased temperatures during vehicle use. The result is quick connectedness with an increase in the mechanical properties until it is far beyond the level of its baseline values.
The demand for improved properties of this kind is primarily being driven by the increasing complexity of components in a reduced installation area in modern motors. Today, parts like turbochargers or intercoolers already reach continuous operating temperatures of up to 220 °C and higher. At the same time, the number of more compact applications which require materials with the same flowability and reliability is growing, even though they are not always exposed to extreme temperatures to the same extent.
Solvay expected this trend and is expanding the Technyl® RED product family with new products which, with the help of innovative molecular technology, are targeted for applications in the temperature ranges of 180 °C to 210 °C and 200 °C to 220 °C.
In addition to their excellent mechanical performance, these new products offer the usual easy workability and high surface quality of other easy-flowing Technyl® PA66 materials.
